Why is Bush harboring terrorist Jose Luis Posada Carriles? April 17, 2007 Dear Attorney General Gonzales: It has come to my attention that based on a recent ruling by U.S. District Judge Kathleen Cordone, Luis Posada Carriles may be released on bond from jail in New Mexico. I adamantly oppose the release of Posada Carriles and assert that the decision is inconsistent with respect to our nation’s policy and principles regarding terrorism. This case is important for United States relations with our neighbors in the hemisphere, and for our moral credibility on the so-called “Global War on Terrorism.” Posada Carriles is a CIA-trained Cuban exile implicated in a series of terrorist incidents, including the bombing of the Cubana Airlines civilian airliner that killed 73 people on October 6, 1976. Evidence in this case has continued to emerge as recently as 2005 when the National Security Archive of George Washington University posted a declassified CIA document from 1976 that quotes Posada Carriles as saying, “We are going to hit a Cuban airplane.” Additionally, Posada Carriles was a participant in a notorious act of domestic terror that took place here in Washington, D.C., with the bombing that killed former Chilean Foreign Minister Orlando Letelier and his American associate Ronnie Moffitt. Carter Cornick, a retired counterterrorism specialist for the FBI who worked on the Letelier case, said in an interview with The New York Times that the Cubana Airlines bombing and the Letelier car bombing were planned at a June 1976 meeting in Santo Domingo attended by Posada Carriles. Cornick said that Posada Carriles was involved “up to his eyeballs” in planning the attacks. At the time of these bombings Venezuelan police found maps and other evidence in Posada’s Venezuelan residence that tied him to the terrorist acts. Furthermore, by evading Venezuelan justice, Posada Carriles has been able to continue committing terrorist crimes in recent years. In a 1998 interview with The New York Times, Posada Carriles claimed responsibility for organizing a series of bombings aimed at Cuban hotels, department stores and other civilian targets during the summer of 1997. These bombings killed an Italian tourist and injured 11 other people. In November 2000, Posada Carriles was arrested in Panama for preparing a bomb to explode in the University of Panama’s Conference Hall, where Fidel Castro was scheduled to deliver a speech. Hundreds of people were expected to attend this event, and had Cuban intelligence not uncovered the plot beforehand, there would have been massive civilian casualties. Posada Carriles was convicted in a Panamanian court only to be pardoned by Panamanian President Mireya Moscoso just days before she left office in August 2004. On September 19, 2001, President Bush powerfully reaffirmed our national policy against terrorism: “Anybody who harbors a terrorist, encourages terrorism, will be held accountable. I would strongly urge any nation in the world to reject terrorism, expel terrorists.” As recently as April 10, 2007, President Bush reiterated these sentiments when he said “I vowed that if you harbored a terrorist you’re equally as guilty as the terrorist. That’s a doctrine. In order for this country to be credible, when the President says something, he must mean it. I meant it….” If Posada Carriles is released on bond, there is a reasonable assumption that he may flee the United States in avoidance of further prosecution by this country and others. To tolerate such an outcome is inconsistent with the stated principles and policy of the United States with respect to the “Global War on Terror” and mars U.S. standing among the international community. As such, to provide Posada Carriles with an opportunity to escape prosecution for acts of terror will compromise the moral credibility of the United States. I urge the following alternative course of action by the United States: Return Posada Carriles to Venezuela where former Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel has unequivocally stated that Posada Carriles will be tried for his crimes. It is a priority for Venezuela, and it should be a priority for the United States to ensure that Posada Carriles – who escaped from a Venezuelan prison – will not be rewarded in his efforts to evade Venezuelan law. The United States must make it clear that it does not reward terrorists. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response. Sincerely, /s/ Dennis J. Kucinich Member of Congress http://kucinich.house.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?Docu... “I vowed that if you harbor a terrorist you’re equally as guilty as the terrorist. That’s a doctrine. In order for this country to be credible, when the President says something, he must mean it.” President George W. Bush, April 10, 2007, American Legion Post 177, Fairfax, Virginia. Washington and Posada Carriles: Fighting Terror Selectively MARJORIE COHN Counterpunch Friday May 11, 2007 Since the 9/11 attacks, the Bush administration has made the "war on terror" the centerpiece of its domestic and foreign policy. Bush cries terror where there is none - as in Iraq and in the communications of ordinary Americans. Meanwhile, he protects the real terrorists in our midst. Luis Posada Carriles is a Cuban-born terrorist who has accurately been called the Osama bin Laden of the Western hemisphere. He boasted of helping to detonate deadly bombs in Havana hotels 10 years ago. Declassified FBI and CIA documents at the National Security Archive reveal that Posada was the mastermind of a 1976 bombing of a civilian Cuban airplane that killed 73 people. He escaped from a Venezuelan prison where he was being tried for his role in the first in-air bombing of a commercial airliner. Posada then played a central role in the illegal Iran-Contra scandal.
Joining the military? Now? I'm thinking, slightly, of a life in the armed forces. Let's get some background. 1) I'm an ardent left-wing man, opposed Iraq from the time I saw 9/11 and knew (yes, I knew) we'd invade Iraq. 2) I do however, support rooting out the Taliban and trying to find Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan and Pakistan, if they can get their domestic politics under control. (hard to do, I know) 3) My dear dad was in the Navy and Air Force, retiring after at least two decades of service, going to Vietnam, Honduras and Panama among other locales. He advises against me being, in his own words, "cannon fodder" in Iraq. 4) I need money for college and I want to do it on my own. I am already two years in my college career and I have had problems with focus and academic discipline. So, the question is, should I enlist? Should I apply for a local HUMINT job that looks real nice? (I am smart and I would like to think I have strong computer skills)

Hippie Communist Liberals? Let me tell you tell you a little bit about myself. My father retired a Colonel after he had fought in World War II,Korea, and Vietnam.I myself served for twenty years in the Army, and I saw combat in Grenada,Panama and the Gulf War.I became ill in 2000 with cancer and retired in 2001.Otherwise,I would still be in the Army.I went into remission and worked two jobs until earlier this year when my cancer returned.I ended up having my left leg amputated at the hip. I have never had long hair and have never used illegal drugs.I come from a family that has a long history of military service, who believe that duty to country is a top priority in life. My late father was a New Deal Democrat and very Liberal in his political outlook. In his later years,he truly believed the Republican Party had been taken over by theocratic thugs,as do I. My point here is why do conservatives think they have a lock on patriotism and honor? Captain-How are those who opposed this war "equally responsible" for it? And how can you accuse of not wanting the United States to win in Iraq when President Bush himself can't decide what "winning" is?

David, Boquete, Volcan Areas? I'm planning a trip to Panama in Feb. and would like to get as much info from people who actually live or have been to these areas. I plan on retiring there one day and my likes are the cooler climates, beaches within 20-30 mins.,outdoor activities, grocery and medical, and reasonable housing costs. I was originally going to look in the Altos Del Maria and El Valle areas but after more research it seems liike the Boquete areas are very nice too. Also, I don't care for the big city life, nice to go there for the day or weekend but wouldn't want to live there, I'm use to the country. Any info and links would be appreciated.
Antonio, you answered my question. The Husband name is Raymond Lewis,Wife Janet F? I was trying to surprise my wife. While we were stationed in Panama Canal in 90's, she met Jamet Furman Lewis. Her husband was a Capt. in the Army. Since Janet was originally from Chicago, she and Tanya hit it off. Tanya use to live in Evanston, Ill. They lost contact when I retired from the military in '88. Antonio if you read this, please share how I can get in touch with the Lewis family. Capt. Raymond (Ray) Lewis and Janet F. Lewis. I am 65 years of age. My guess Ray should be about the same age. Janet should be about 70 years old. She and Tanya are about the same age group. Please assist. I have been trying to no avail. I use reunion.com ,White Pages, and People search. I hope someone can steer me in the right direction. The last conversation Tanya had with Janet was in the early ninties. Capt.Lewis and his wife Janet were stationed in Augusta, Ga. If memory serve me correct, his last address was in North Augusta,Ga.
Are there any active duty navy guys here who can shed more light on these murders? http://www.militarycity.com/valor/3131952.html http://www.militarycity.com/valor/3131949.html The Associated Press Two Navy sailors, one from Georgia, were shot to death in Bahrain, military officials announced Oct. 23. Seaman Anamarie Sannicolas Camacho, 20, of Panama City, Fla., and Seaman Genesia Mattril Gresham, 19, of Lithonia, Ga., died Oct. 22, according to a statement from the Defense Department. A U.S. Navy sailor shot and killed the two sailors early Oct. 22 in the barracks an American military base in Bahrain, officials said. The alleged shooter, a man, was critically wounded in the shooting at the Naval Support Activity Bahrain base, said a Navy official who was not authorized to release the information to the media and spoke on condition of anonymity. The wounded sailor apparently shot himself, the Navy said. Both women held the master-at-arms rating and were assigned to Naval Support Activity Bahrain. ~~~~~~~ Retired Chief Petty Officer
