Public Comments
- yes and yes.. but they are limited to not being able to buy within a certain distance from the coast. i Love mexico , and plan to retire there myself
- i think it should be ok as long as its equal treatment
- yeah mexico's stuff is a lot cheaper than the things here in america. that's why so many immagrants are coming to america. let's say a guy works for $8/hr. in one hour, that guy can buy about 3 meals in america. if he took that same amount back to mexico he could probably afford triple that amount. but if u ever do, don't pee in the lakes i heard worms crawl up ur penis and out through ur eyes pleasant, no?
- Hate to disagree with everyone but you can not own property in Mexico unless you're a Mexican National although you can lease up to 99 years. Had a company try and sell me a vacation property there and I almost bought it until I read the fine print about the owning of property there.
- yea you can I think its a great idea to move there. I lived in Mexico for awhile, and the people there are so much nicer than americans (dont mean to be rude, but they are, i guess because they dont take things for granted) But i would STRONGLY suggest you retire in mexico. So peaceful
- why not, there's probably more room there than here.
- Yes, you can own property in Mexico. There is not a single correct answer above here. I lived in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico for 17 years. I bought and sold 3 homes while I lived there. I owned and operated half interest in a property management company which managed over 80 properties for foriegners and I still own half interest in a bar there. If the property you purchase falls within 12 miles of the boarder or coast, you hold title by bank trust. This means, a bank takes Title and issues you a 50 year irrivocable trust. At the end of the 50 years, you can renew this trust. At the end of the 2nd 50 years, the property must change ownership. If at any point, you wish to sell the property, you are subject to the same capital gains taxes as the Mexican people are. This is better ownership than you receive in the U.S. where the government can take away your property at any time for any reason. Imminant Domain... do you think you own you home in the US? As long as they don't want it you do. Outside of the 12 mile barrier, You own property as a Mexican owns property. No trust. Why is their this Federal Zone. It is because, any foriegn investments in this area are reviewed to insure that no one is secretly acquiring large blocks of land. It is a wonderful place to retire. The Mexican people are a blessing from God. You see, contrary to popular belief, most Mexicans are not swimming across to our side of the Rio Grande. They are friendly, respectful people. Except for Mexico City. Don't retire there.
- doobie is correct. You cannot own property in Mexico unless you change your citizenship and become a Mexican citizen. You can lease and rent, but not own.
