I am thinking of moving to Mexico from Australia. Any hints?

Has anyone gone thru the process of retiring to Mexico from Australia? I am interested in what problems you may have encountered. Can I take furniture in a container? Is anything prohibited from being taken into Mexico?

1. It will cost you a FORTUNE to ship household goods to Mexico. If money is not problem, otherwise, bring only personal items and buy furniture here. You need to go to the nearest mexican consulate and apply for an FM3 retiree visa. you cannot move household stuff to Mexico if you are only coming with a tourist card. They do not allow you to bring NEW stuff, especially appliances and electronics...but really...the expense of bringing those is not worth it. There is tons of info on retiring to Mexico on the internet.
2. Be very sure that's what you want to do. Make a visit first to the area you chose then decide. There are many cultural differences that you will have to deal with. Don't bring your household goods you'll find everything need in Mexico. Your move will be very expensive so be prepared.
3. Furniture is cheap and well made in Mexico. Leave all but family heirlooms and buy it new in Mexico. The following resources can answer all of you questions, and lots you never thought of.
