best country to retire

Where in Mexico do senior citizens retire?

Maybe you could tell me something about it?

Public Comments

  1. In Texas...trust me...come here sometime...Texas is over 2/3 Mexican...I don't care what the census says, they are 90% illegals who are here.
  2. I don't know. but I would like to retire in Cancun. I just love it there.
  3. Texas, Arizona and the Denver plateau.
  4. They go to the USA where everything is good.
  5. I am pretty sure they retire in the US on social security that they never paid into- well some of them do- ok many
  6. Straight to hell. Or they go to one of the many drug plantations.
  7. Cuernavaca, Has a great red light district and anyone is welcome there.
  8. After all the gibberish above, you might like a straight answer. I assume you mean US retirees in Mexico? If so, they go to many places, but there are large communities of US retirees in Guadalajara, Ajijic (on Lake Chapala near Guadalajara), Cuernavaca, and San Miguel de Allende. Oaxaca is growing in popularity, as is Guanajuato, Queretaro, Monterrey, Chihuahua and Patzcuaro. Personally, I love San Miguel and think it is the perfect retirement spot for Americans. It has great weather, a real Mexican ambience but with a lot of amenities Americans want--good restaurants, movies, good hi-speed internet, a library, etc. There are festivals, parades, processions and such all the time. It's not the cheapest place in Mexico, however, so those trying to live on Social Security have to be more careful than they might like.
  9. NOT the wisest decision a retiree can make. Mexico may be cheaper, but it a very dangerous place to invest in real estate...the country is so coorupt, your land can be hijacked by politics, Non-Mexicans are not allowed to own within 25 miles of the shore, (you must lease the land from the "owners," and the owners can change at a moment's notice...leaving you without any recourse, and NO house)....Mexico has also become a mess crime-wise...drug cartels have taken over everything there..we used to head down to Tiajuana for a day here, a day there, but NO MORE...the police are corrupt as hell, taking bribes in US Dollars for traffic infractions they invent as the go, and street violence is rampant now...no thanks. Costa Rica is safe, inexpensive, stable, and beautiful if you want to retire outside the US...but forget about Mexico...very unwise to play there now. Good luck
  10. With their families, mostly. The culture there respects their elders. Families live multigenerationally. They are a lot kinder than we are to our aging citizens.
