When I retire, can I leave country and still get social security?
Do I have to remain a US citizen?

- I'd say yes. You just have to report to US embassy every year, to prove that you're still alive. Plus, pay your taxes every year, too. My mom is getting her social security from another country. She's here now in the US, and still getting it. Goodluck.
- Yes, you can! I agree with the first poster. My husband is retired military, and a lot of our friends remained in different countries, and some are now at an age where they can claim social security benefits, and they love being there.
- Yes. You can leave the US and still get Social Security. Many people have done this. You money goes a lot further in developing countries than it does in the US. I wouldn't give up my US citizenship. It just doesn't make any sense. Good lcuk.
