best country to retire

Is New Zealand cricket reaching crisis point?

The Black Caps have just arrived for their tour of England. However, their best batsman, Fleming, has retired, Vettori, Oram and McCullum are due to join them until they have fulfilled their IPL obligations, and Bond is banned for joining the rebel ICL league. The players are intimating that making money means more to them than playing for their country. This may not be their intention, but it is certainly how it looks. Now I would have no objection if the England tour had been arranged after they had signed their IPL contracts, but this is not the case! Have New Zealand cricket been forced to allow the players to go, or risk losing them altogether? Will more countries follow suit, and try to have the best of both worlds, by allowing players to join lucrative tournaments, and forego international commitments for financial gain?

Public Comments

  1. right from the start its remained in crises.
  2. The ICC are to blame - had they supported the ICL instead of getting greedy and starting their own league, then Bond could still be playing.
  3. ICL is so boring
  4. Yes you are right my friend
  5. as far as im concerned they have not won a test series besides bangla against eng and sa
  6. may be it is the fault of NZ cricket board, they are not paying well. The reason could be less sponsorship Corporates and businessmen are not investing in cricket, bcoz a large chunk of the public is not interested in cricket So,less ppl are interested in cricket, the game has less followers and aspiring cricketers Also you can't force the NZ public to like cricket. So, u can say it's no one's fault.
  7. Same is the case with West Indies also. Their main players Sarwan,Gayle and Chanderpaul may take part in IPLl skipping Australia's tour of West Indies. It is sad to see how players put money ahead of their national duties. The players just cannot resist the lucrative offers of IPL. New Zealand will certainly have a tough time without their best players like McCullum,Vettori and Bond. New Zealand cricket board is helpless in this matter,i feel. Australian plyers will not stay back for the IPL.They will join the team for Windies tour. CA had made it very clear that the players should put national duties first. But there will be more presssure on all cricket boards in the future. But there has been some talk of creating a six week window for IPL in the future so that the players can make money and play international cricket also.
  8. our team is still remains better than yours.kiwis shall repeat the same old story(haha).
