I’m looking to retire anywhere in the country can everybody recommend a good place to live?
Would like to be located close to conveniences where a car is not a necessity. But, am open to any and all serious replies…

- you could come try out Maui in hawaii. Lahaina and/or Kihei would put you in a town were there are conveniences but not all that busy. you could also be close to the warm ocean and the sun!
- Somewhere nice in Florida where hurricanes aren't a big problem... in a small town. =] (not Indiana, that's where I'm from)
- Nova scotia canada, I know its not hot, but there are a lot of people that retire here, aLOT!
- It may be important to you to move to a state that doesn't have an income tax such as Florida, Arizona, NH, Alaska(maybe not so convenient)...
- Depending on your life style and income, California is a great place because of the weather. Go on the internet and look up the magazine 'The best places to retire'. The link below will get you started with a article from Money Magazine.
- Lots of research to be done besides just convenience. Here are but just a very small number of links that you should consider investigating. If you want to really do a thorough research go to: http://www.realestateformnm.com/ResearchLink.html FBI: Crime reports for each State: http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/05cius/data/table_08.html All US States Constitutions and Web sites: http://www.constitution.org/cons/usstcons.htm 2006 Market-by-Market Home Price Analysis Reports from National Association of REALTORS®: http://www.realtor.org/Research.nsf/pages/MetroHomePriceAnalysisReports?OpenDocument Search for cities & Counties in the US: http://www.naco.org/Template.cfm?Section=Data_and_Demographics&Template=/cffiles/counties/city_srch.cfm State by State tax information and analysis http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/TaxFacts/tfdb/TFTemplate.cfm?topic2id=90 Cost of living comparison rates from the Univ. of Michigan http://www.lib.umich.edu/govdocs/steccpi.html Information on any city in the USA: http://www.bestplaces.net/ Information on any school: http://www.greatschools.net/ Locating Sex offenders and other felons living in your area http://www.familywatchdog.us/Default.asp Needless to say there are many many more links available for research on issues as important as what you need to know about an area before you move. - Chandler, AZ (For retirees, I would recommend the Sun Lakes community.) Chandler is a town SE of Phoenix. Not too big, not too small, mostly conservative. Lots of things for people of all ages to do. Low crime, still some rural areas available. Far enough from but easily accessible to major freeways, that is if you want to go to Phoenix, Tucson, Palm Springs, Las Vegas. Plus, the housing market is cooling off big time... We've been here 2 years; I'm from TX and lived in NM previously. Best community I've ever lived in. Go to http://www.ziprealty.com/ and tell Joe C. that Monica sent you. (He's a great retiree! Love dealing with him!) Best of luck, hope to see you soon! Mon :-) EDIT: Based on monkey's response, yes, there is a state income tax. Just filed yesterday.
- There's an excellent book that will give you an evaluation of many places. It's called Retire in Style. You can probably get it out of your public library. The links below may help you to make your decision. Best wishes.
