Can i get investor/retired status in thailand if i got a few million baht to invest?
My boyfrind and I wanna settle in thailand after we marry. We just wanna stay together in a nice country together, by some residence or long term visa. We are both retired in sense we dont need to work or do a job in thailand. We both are indians and just wanna stay in a nice country long term. we dont want a work visa anywhere. we rather just give some money and get a residence/retirement visa in any country..including thailand. I heard somewhere that you can get a retirement visa in thailand if u got loads of money and are above 50 yrs. However, we both are about 30 years, so i was wondering if we just invest a bit of money in thailand and stay there with some investor/retired status visa? any advice? only real life experiences please. if u have managed to get a similar status stay it would be helpfull if you could give us a detailed reply. thanks

- you can get a retirement visa if you are over 50 and have yearly income of 800,000 or savings in a thai bank of 800,000 baht. So you should have no problems. Best advise is to visit here and see if you like it.

- Check with the Thai Embassy in your country.
- The above information is correct that you can get a retirement visa if you are 50 or older and have 800,000 baht - [approx $21,000] in the bank in Thailand or an equivalent amout in income. However, since your are 30 - this is not an option. I have never heard of an investor visa. You do have some possibilities though. If you are English language fluent you should be able to get a job teaching English and they will get you a work visa. You might find it a fun and engaging way to become part of a small community. Thais are very friendly and appreciative. The need is great especially out of Bangkok where you can have a quiet, peaceful and quite inexpensive existence [ a friend of mine is renting a nice house in a lovely nearby small city for $100 a month] and you might find it a really rewarding and fun way to spend your time.. They have fun in school - both teachers and students alike. I have done this on occasion in rural schools as a volunteer and had a great time.. However, since you say you do not want to work, what other people do is to get a tourist visa which is given at the airport, depending upon your citizenship.. USA passport will get you a month tourist visa and then many people [ busloads daily] go to the border and cross over and then back the same day and renew the 30 day tourist visa in that manner. I now hold a retirement visa and love living here. It would be difficult to imagine living elsewhere and the main reason is that the Thai people are light-hearted and delightful. As mentioned by one of the others, I too would recommend that you visit first and see for yourself - - please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions...

- My first response is that to make a small fortune in Thailand, go there with a large one......That said, There are complex rules for forigners living there that you can find on their US embasy website. Some exceptions are made for foreigners with money to invest there. My wife and I only stay for 90days at a time since any type of foreign visa requires checking with Thai Immigration every 90 days. There is a large Indian community in Bangkok with many businesses being owned by them. In the rural areas there is a small amount of resentment aganst Indians just as there is resentment against Thais that have acchieved more than their neighbors. look at these http://www.thaiembdc.org http://www.mfa.go.th/web/12.php http://thai.expatz.net/
