best country to retire

Where can you retire on $25,000 a year?

I'm retired, and headed for divorce (it's inevitable). I already have a pretty good indicaiton that after the divorce I'll be able to generate about $25k annually. I'm 55 years old and in declining health. I'd hoped to go to Thailand, but now I'm not so sure I'll have the assets for living expenses. What are some other countries where an expat American can live with a low income and have a decent quality of life?

  1. Tiera Del Fuego!
  2. Mexico is a great alternative and there are multiple locations where there are many US citizens living full or part time.
  3. Thailand is inexpensive but very polluted. If you have health problems and can afford $25000 per year you can live in other parts of Asia. You may not like it having lived in the west. But there is a trade off, if you can tolerate a laid back life without the rush and tumble the hectic life you leave behind you can settle in India. You can afford to live comfort, I hear from those who have written articles about their experiences in India, you can pay for a nurse and housekeeper on monthly basis. You can join clubs for expats but can you tolerate the hot weather, I hear the natives like foreigners from the west. The cost of living is low, maybe you can find a wife. Fifty-five is not the end .
  4. Panama or Nicaragua. There are several articles you can find online talking about the wonderful retirement in Nicaragua. Head south!
