Does Chiang Mai, Thailand has an American town?

I am retired and wonder if I want to move to Chiang Mai for the rest of my life is a good idea? I am chinese and I don't speak any thai. My wife was born there and she really wants to go back. Anyone know is there an American town there?

1. Not that I recall when I went there but the people are friendly and I'm sure you'll adapt well.
2. There is nothing American in Chiang Mai. BUT, it is my favourite place in Thailand and I am sure you would love it. You can get around on English but if you move there I am sure you would start to pick up a bit of Thai and really enjoy it. The people are great and friendly.
3. Sawat dee krap. Lucky you for being able to live in Thailand....lol. Chang Mai is a great place. Its not to much crowded same as Bangkok. Good luck.
4. Nope, does not have. But it has quite a cosmopolitan residents around. This place is favourite for visitors to get residents due to its cooler climate. And there are Asians who are staying there too. You will be able to link up with the expatriates community in no time you get there. Enjoy your retirement.

I think what you might be looking for is a community that is predominantly for foreigners and yes, there are several gated communities such as this that cater to many nationalities.. rentals can be had for 15,000 baht a month for a very nice place.. You will probably have alot of leverage in terms of buying because it appears that re-selling is not quick and easy. I know of two friends who would like to sell but would not be able to get back their original investment.. My advice would be to rent first and see how you like it, learn the mkt, and look for the right place fro you after that.. best
