Castro has retired, does this mean that the pointless embargo can finally end?
http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/reuters/080219/n_top_news/news_cuba_castro_col I'm Canadian, don't care about US party politics, I've been to Cuba many times and I love it there. I want this embargo to end. It is immoral and without merit.
Public Comments
- It probably won't.
- No, they embarrassed America in the Sixties!
- A number of US companies trade with Cuba through shell companies out of Canada. This is common knowledge up here
- Hopefully it will with our new President, we'll see...
- Not as long as he and his brother are alive. He will die with an embargo still in place.
- No. http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/02/19/us.castro/index.html
- Cuban Missle crisis. Too soon to forget if you ask me. Maybe Cubans should rise up and liborate themselfs.
- Retiring is good. But dying would be better.
- No, it means that the republicans will write for history that Bush ended with Castro's communist dictatorship.
- Why is it pointless? Fidel is an Outspoken opponent of U.S. interests all over the place. It does not matter what party you claim. he has opposed both administrations in pretty much all actions they could take. He opposes Democracy and Capitalism. He oppses what puts food on your table. It is not strange that thousands of Cubans flee their homeland for the Florida shore.
- Dunno, but it should have ended long ago. Like ALL embargoes, it does nothing to solve the problem and when you're dealing with leftists, the best way to destroy them is with trade and a free market. Look at China. The more we trade with them, the more they trade with the world, the better their economy does, the weaker communism's hold is over the people, the greater their freedoms. Bottom line, open it up. The embargo is aimed at only one man, but it's punishing a nation while that one man lives in opulence...another hallmark of communism and it's little brother, socialism. Bring commerce to Cuba and ensure a better life for the people.
- Once Castro is actually dead or lets just say pronounced dead I think they will. Until then nope.
