Is it a good idea to retire in Mexico or should you worry about getting killed?

  1. go to florida
  2. i wud retire in mexico b/c its very cheap there so ur money is worth more, if u dont mess with the locals i guess they wont mess with u is wat i heard
  3. Many people live out their retirements in Mexico quite happily. Depends on where you go.
  4. My uncle is retired and lives in Mexico. He said he probably wouldn't make it with his pension in the US with all the increasing prices.
  5. Mexico is a fun place to go on a quick shopping trip but even that is sort of dangerous. My fiance lived on the Mexican border (U.S. side) most of his entire life and we still go to visit. Even the U.S side is filthy and dangerous. When you step over into Mexico... be prepared for anything. Also be aware unlike in the U.S, the authorities are NOT your friends, and you can go to jail for however long, for whatever, with no questions asked. I would definitely suggest to whoever was considering this to go on frequent trips and makesure they will be okay with the danger of being assaulted, substandard housing and medical care, etc. There are a few places in the interior of Mexico that are definitely better, but all in all the country is poor and not so safe.
  6. Well if you can speak Spanish and know some people down there then go ahead. But if you don't know Spanish or know anyone down there stay in the states.Getting killed shouldn't be something to get scared of.If you really want to go there then don't let your fears hold you back. But hey I hear Kansas is a nice place to live if your looking to save some money.
  7. i wouldnt cuz i believe that alot of ppl are saying that the police in mexico are corrupt so if something does happen and u call the cops theyll prolly jack u or be the ones that jacked u in the first place
  8. http://www.mexperience.com/ <--some info I went to Algodones, Mexico for eye glasses and dental work. I thought the service was good (and fast) and prices were fair and I never felt afraid. A friend of mine went to Rocky Point for vacation and his truck was stolen so bad things can happen, but they also happen in USA. I think I read something to the effect that about a million Americans live in Mexico, full and part time. I guess it can work out just fine but a visit or two and some homework seems a wise prerequisite. I found the people very friendly and will answer or try to answer any questions you might have.
  9. You should always worry when going somewhere new, but this is a matter of opinion since there is a lot of places in Mexico that are better than Compton or Brooklyn. In other words all countries have their nice cities and their bad ones. It all depends where you plan on going to. Check out San Miguel de Allende thats where most U.S retirees retire.
  10. YOU SHOULD WORRY ABOUT GOING TO A COLLEGE IN THE USA OR MAYBE FROM A WACKO WORKMATE, ALSO IN THE USA, THE CRAZY PEOPLE IS IN THE USA NOT IN MEXICO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. Most of the killings are associated with drugs trafficking. As long as you dont get involved with those guys you'll be ok. In terms of crime, border Mexican cities are the worst, also they are the ugliest in Mexico. There are many expats living in Ajijic and Chapala http://www.ajijic.com/ Puerto Vallarta could be a good option, if you're into beaches. PV is very touristy, but not far away from there are more laid back towns. http://mx.youtube.com/watch?v=9IJlKt2cSq4 But if you're into cities, Guadalajara, which is near Ajijic, could be a good option. http://mx.youtube.com/watch?v=8moG2rSBjVM As someone mentioned above, San Miguel de Allende is also a beautiful town. http://mx.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf2qNLOJbbI San Miguel de Allende is not far Guanajuato City, which is spectacular. http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=314394 My advice is that you should pay a visit to form your own opinion.
